The Sakıp Sabancı Museum is hosting an exhibition of works by Pablo Picasso, one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. Museum Director Dr. Nazan Olcer stated that 'Picasso in Istanbul' is the first major retrospective devoted to a major western artist in Turkey. Of the 135 works, 116 were obtained from the Picasso family. The other works are from the Picasso museums in Paris and Barcelona, the Musée d'Art Moderne Lille Metropole, FABA (Fundacion Almine Bernard Ruiz-Picasso para el Arte) and private collections, and were chosen by Picasso's grandson Bernard Ruiz-Picasso. The exhibition will include photographs of his close circle and his studios taken by famous photographers. The catalogue is in English and Turkish and includes Abidin Dino's memories of Picasso.
Picasso experts will give conferences throughout the exhibition. There will be film screening and workshops, as well as educational seminars for children and students. For the first time, there will also be special arrangements for deaf and mute visitors.
Until March 26. Closed January 1, 2006, January 10, 2006, and Mondays. Open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday from 10.00-18.00, Wednesday and Saturday from 10.00-22.00. Address: Sakıp Sabancı Museum, No: 22, Emirgan. Tel: 0212-277 22 00. http://sabanciuniv.edu
