750 gr pitted black cherries
200 gr (1 cup) water
450 gr sugar (2 cups)
Slices of day-old bread
Garnish
Turkish kaymak or whipped cream
Place cherries into a deep pan and pour the sugar. Stir well and set aside for half an hour.
Remove the crust of the bread slices.
Add the wate to cherries and bring to boil. Cook for 10 minutes until the water becomes syrup. Turn the heat off and set aside.
Toas the bread slices in the oven or in a teflon coated non-stick pan until they become crispy.
Place the slices in a large plate and pour over the syrup and cherries. Cool.
Garnish with kaymak or whipped cream.
