As we approach the end of another year, we also have much to look forward to. Turkish automobile manufacturers are hard at work preparing the new models that will be on the market throughout 2004. Car lovers are anxiously awaiting the launch of a large variety of automobiles that first appeared on the scene in 2003.
The 5th generation Golf
The two cars which have created the greatest stir in the Turkish market are the 5th generation Volkswagen Golf and the new generation Opel Astra. These two models usher in a new era in the battle between the compact class cars. They should be on our roads by the beginning of spring. The new Golf was launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It hopes to be the most successful Golf ever-a lofty aim when you consider that 22 million Golfs have been sold since 1974. It represents the next stage of the VW Group design understanding that had its genesis in the Phaeton and continued in the Touareg.

The new generation Astra
At first glance, the new Astra has a more aggressive and eye-catching design than the Golf. The 5 door hatchback chassis Astra is the latest example of the design understanding showcased in the Speedster, Vectra, Meriva and Signum. A system designed to make the Astra the leading model in terms of drive and traction allows the driver to adjust the shock absorption capacity of the suspension to suit their driving style and road conditions.
A roof that opens in 25 seconds
The Peugeot 307 is another compact car with a difference. The CC version with a folding metal roof will be on the market in Turkey as of spring. The 307 CC is in the same design family as the other 307 models. At the touch of a single button located between the front seats, the top folds down in just 25 seconds. The interior of the 307 CC is just as striking as the exterior. It features a stylish dashboard and some models feature two-tone upholstery. The steering wheel, central console, air vents and inside door handles are metal plated. The aluminium pedals, footrest and gear knob add to the overall sporty effect.
Innovation in Sport Utility Vehicles
BMW developed the X3 to compete with off road vehicles like the Land Rover Freelander and the Toyota RA V4. It should be one of the most important new models in 2004. Before selling Land Rover to Ford, BMW entered the compact SUV market by applying the benefits of BMW technology to the Land Rover Freelander. Now, it hopes to be a leader in the class with its new model that carries BMW's Bavarian genes. Like the X5 that was developed on the 5 series platform, the X3 was developed on the 3 series platform.
