How did you get interested in design?
Like many artists, I started as a child. My parents are interior designers, so they subconsciously led me towards their profession, and to architecture, art and history. I was also affected by what I later saw, felt and read.
What do you find important in design?
Knowing the culture of design.
What kind of industrial design do you prefer? Interiors or individual pieces?
Seeing past the horizon, breaking the rules, seeing things differently... If I can turn my ideas into three dimensions through my research, I see no difference.
How does Milan compare to Istanbul as a city for design?
Castiglioni, Sottsass and Zanuso, the creators of the concept of contemporary design, set up their studios here and supported new designers. This makes Milan special. Still, such comparisons are inappropriate. We cannot belittle the exciting energy of designers in Istanbul and throughout Turkey.
What inspires you when you are designing?
My thoughts. I believe that our experiences are very important. If you like to create and are willing to do some research , it doesn't take long for all these things to come together to form a design. An exhibition, food, a tradition from an unknown culture, a film, a discussion-everything is a source of inspiration. You just have to assimilate them. Visit www.defnekoz.com defne@tin.it
