Where do you enjoying travelling the most?
Thanks to its relaxed lifestyle, the Seychelles is an antidote to stress. You can enjoy a calm holiday surrounded by the local people, without feeling isolated and out of touch with reality.
What are your favourite places to visit?
The Seychelles consists of 115 islands. My favourite areas are the heavenly bays and beaches that are closed to motor vehicles and only accessible by ox-cart, small lorries and bicycles. Its most famous beaches are Grand Anse, AnseCoco and Anse Source d'Argent. La Digue is a half-hour boat ride from Praslin Island, which also has some very famous beaches. The most famous is Anse Lazio. You must visit the UNESCO world heritage site Vallée de Mai and Coco de Mer. Praslin is 1 hour by catamaran and 15 minutes by small plane from Mahe. If you want to get away from it all, go to Alphonse Island, half an hour away by plane. (www.alphonse-resort.net) In Mahe, home to the capital Victoria, you can visit art galleries and tour the fish and vegetable markets. You can also go sailing, diving, snorkelling, fishing, surfing or trekking.
What are your favourite restaurants and which dishes would you recommend from the menu?
The Seychelles has great food. Victoria's modern restaurants serve great fare-seafood in particular. The Coco de Mer hotel in Praslin has a good restaurant and the rooms have great views (www.cocodemer.com). In La Digue, head to Le Chevalier Bay in Anse Lazio for seafood and stay at La Digue Island Lodge (www.ladigue.sc). In Mahe, stay at Le Meridien Fisherman's Cove (www.fishcove.lemeridien.com), Banyan Tree (www.banyantree.com) or the St. Anne Resort, 10 minutes away by boat (www.sainteanne-resort.com).
What do you recommend people should do in the evening?
The big islands don't have much of a nightlife beyond performances of the local Sega dance. Victoria has some bars that play music, but not many. But you don't go to the Seychelles for the nightlife. The Seychelles is a paradise filled with opportunities to live like Robinson among the locals.
