How would you define futurism?
Futurism has become synonymous with technology, but that is wrong. Futurism is about creating strategies and plans for the future. International politics is the most important aspect of futurism.
What is your image of the future?
While developments in technology seem to be breaking down social structures, they are in fact creating new ones. For example, people are creating clubs based on their hobbies. No matter how hi-tech our lives may become, we are finally social animals.
What will social life be like in the future?
Technology will become a vehicle for socialisation. For example, we believe that singers will become obsolete. Instead, people will listen to music downloaded from the internet by DJs. Fans of those DJs will come together to listen to their music.
What is the future of agriculture?
The most important thing is to analyse trends and to interpret them using your own personal foresight. Let's look at the trends. Based on current conditions, agricultural land is going to shrink rapidly. As a result, genetically modified products will be developed. This will lead to disputes over ethics. You may remember that the same thing happened when IVF first began. Basically, the world is going to change. Since we can't avoid this, we have to come up to alternative solutions to the problems that arise.
How does being a futurist impact your life?
I am surrounded by technology. All the doors in our house open using fingerprint analysis. The house is fitted with a digital music system. I have some 10,000 pieces of music on file. Different kinds of music play in different areas of the house. We use stock control and shopping control systems. In order to design the future, I need to live with futuristic designs. For example, it would be ludicrous for a futurist not to enjoy using the internet. I lead a completely futurist lifestyle. All Futurists Association www.futurizm.org
