Text: Nisan Danisman

Canadian winters can be quite cold. Make sure to wrap up warm. Bring a coat, a pair of gloves and a pair of boots with good treads to help you walk with ease through the ice, snow, and slush. Well-insulated boots can help protect your feet from the intense cold.
A conservative, well-dressed, appearance is important. Clothing does not have to be brand new or "trendy." Quality clothing that is old, but presentable, can be acceptable.
Canadians usually do not wear scent in a business setting. It's often believed that perfume is worn to cover up poor personal hygiene. Scent can also be a health hazard to people with asthma, a relatively common condition in Canada. Scented products are forbidden in hospitals and doctors' offices.

While decision-making can be very individualistic, company policy must be followed. Decisions are not rushed, but Canadians of practically all origins dislike wasting time. Most Canadians do not have difficulty saying "no."
Tips on entertaining
Business meals are popular. Breakfast meetings are becoming common. Business lunches are short [1-1 1/2 hours]with lighter foods and often no alcohol.
The host or hostess begins the meal, followed by the guests.
If you prefer not to eat something, simply say, "No, thank you."
Restaurants charge a Goods and Services Tax [GST] of 7%. Gratuities are not included, but you will be expected to tip 15%.
Tips on how to behave in public
Canada is an open society, exercising maximum social tolerance. But boasting and ostentation tends to be frowned upon.
Avoid speaking a foreign language in the presence of others who do not understand.
Canadians may assume very casual seating positions. You may observe them sitting with the ankle of one leg over the knee or resting their feet on chairs or desks.
Although they often use first names over the telephone, French Canadians may revert to surnames in person.
