Spring is in the air! The air, the sea and the earth are warm and full of new life. This month, I have some good news to share with you! Every day, more and more people are taking part in the "Adopt a Mediterranean Monk Seal".
Meanwhile, have I told you about the SAD-AFAG's Voluntary Membership Program? The aim of the project is to educate a wider audience about the plight of us monk seals as well as the need to protect our shores. It also aims to promote more active participation in preserving the environment. Each volunteer is given a certificate and will regularly receive the SAD-AFAG?s "Mediterranean Explorer" newsletter about the SAD-AFAG's activities on behalf of the monk seal. Every time a Mediterranean Monk Seal Volunteer renews his or her membership, they are promoted to a higher rank and awarded a new certificate. The ranks are named after stages in our development. The first year, volunteers are awarded a "Baby Seal Certificate", the second a "Child Seal Certificate", the third a "Teenage Seal Certificate" and the fourth year a "Mother/Father Seal Certificate".
As you may know, the Coast Guard 01 boat in Mersin Aydıncık is responsible for stopping illegal fishing and protecting us seals. However, the boat has been out of operation for some time. It needs a new propeller from Japan. If anyone out there can help us solve this problem, please contact the SAD-AFAG. Finally, remember that the endangered Caretta Caretta sea turtles come to the Mediterranean shores in May. Please take care of them.
