Dear People,
I am very gloomy and pessimistic as I write you this letter. I have been sending you these letters for a while in order to give you information about Mediterranean seals. I am writing to you from my damp and dark cave for each issue of this magazine with the hope of stretching all along in the sunny beaches one day. But, I am afraid this ''hope'' is nothing but an empty dream, and I and my friends do nothing but deceive ourselves.
We are dying and you watch us die! I can not know how many of you are reading these letters and think ''I should do something too''. I can not know this, but I know for sure that none of you actualizes their thoughts and intentions to do something. Consequently, I see that we and the sea and the coastline that we live in have indeed no significance for you. You think that the welfare you enjoy in your cities will long continue after our distinction?! But, unfortunately, we won't be on the earth to look at your state after us and laugh. Laugh; because you continue to do everything that is required for our extinction. Moreover, you do not help a handful of people who insistently struggle to help us seals survive in this ecosystem and to protect the natural values of the seas and coastlines which are the bio-spheres of us as well as of you people.
My friends from SAD-AFAG are in great problem. I see them helpless for the first time since I came to know them. The power they need to finish the projects at their hands has come to an end. Even all existing support for these projects does not cover their costs. They try to sell the instruments which they indeed need for their work and research; however there is no one volunteering to buy these instruments. They have tapped all alternatives throughout these three years. They even worked with PR companies. But they could not get anything other than good wishes and advice.
Apparently, these final efforts will not yield any result either. The reason for this is that you continue to watch these efforts from afar in a very ''sensitive'' way. There will soon be nobody left working at SAD-AFAD. As they have to make their living too. There were already very few left. They could not protect themselves as they tried to defend our case. And then we will be left all alone! There is already no good from you to us. With their absence, there will no team left in existence, which work for the protection of the seas and seals living along Turkish coastline with the similar efficiency and magnitude. And it is just about the time our numbers started to register increases at some parts.
This is probably my last letter to you. I don't want to try to tell my case to insensitive people who do not listen to me.
